KUALA LUMPUR: The police bid farewell to Datuk Seri Mohd Kamarudin Md Din as the Internal Security and Public Order Department director gets ready to hang up the uniform after over three decades of service.

Born on Sep 2, 1964, in Rembau, Negri Sembilan, Kamarudin embarked on a journey in the force 36 years ago and will officially retire on his birthday.

A graduate of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia with a degree in Information Security, he began his career with the police on June 5, 1988, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.

His first posting was at the Kuala Krai district police headquarters in Kelantan, where he served as Deputy District Police Chief until 1993.

Today, the Malaysian Police Training Centre (Pulapol) witnessed a sent-off ceremony or 'Paluan Berundur' for Kamarudin, featuring a marching band performance and poem recitation by the police members.

Also present was Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

Kamarudin's leadership qualities were evident throughout his career, earning him numerous key positions within the force.

His expertise in technology and forensics led to his roles as a Computer System analyst, Head of the Technology Crime Unit within the Commercial Crime Investigation Department, and later as the Head of the Computer Forensics Unit at the Forensics Laboratory.

In 2017, his exceptional service was recognised with a promotion to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), taking on the role of Johor police deputy chief.

Two years later, he was entrusted with leading the Johor contingent as police chief. His leadership extended to national levels when he was appointed CCID director in June 2021 and helmed the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department in April 2023.

March 4 marked another milestone in his career as he assumed the position of the Internal Security and Public Order Department director.

Kamarudin demonstrated his leadership by orchestrating successful operations that uncovered sophisticated firework smuggling syndicates, further cementing his reputation as a leader of integrity and calibre.

His commitment and contributions to the police force and the nation have been recognised through numerous accolades, including the prestigious Panglima Setia Pasukan Polis in 2014, the Johan Setia Mahkota in 2015, and the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang in 2016.
