KUALA LUMPUR: A dim sum restaurant previously not halal-certified has now resolved the issue with the Islamic Development Department (Jakim).
Dolly Dim Sum said that its central kitchen, which supplies ingredients and semi-prepared food to all its branches, has received halal certification from Jakim.
"Individuals can verify our halal status on the Jakim website using the last nine-digit number: 021-06/2024, and select 'Asia Mex,' our corporate name or address, for more details," the company said in a statement.
"As stated in our announcement on Aug 1 this year, we are also in the process of obtaining halal certification for each of our branches.
"Securing the halal certification for our central kitchen is an essential part of our overall certification process," it said.
Additionally, the management of Johnny's Restaurant and Black Canyon confirmed earlier that they have yet to receive halal certification from Jakim.
Both restaurants said that all ingredients used in their outlets, including chicken, eggs, meats, and other raw items, come from suppliers with halal certification, and these certificates are available for viewing in-store.
They added that no alcohol or wine is used in the preparation of their food and beverages.
"We understand the importance of halal certification to our customers and are actively working to secure halal certification from Jakim for our central kitchen as well as individual certification for all our outlets," the restaurants said in a statement.
