Kota Kinabalu City Hall partners with NFCC to tackle financial crime

KOTA KINABALU: The Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) and the National Anti-Financial Crime Centre have signed a Memorandum of Collaboration aimed at strengthening financial management and combating financial crimes.

DBKK is the first local authority in the state to sign the MoC with the NFCC, which focuses on three key areas namely property ownership information, license holder information, and tenant information.

The MoC was signed by Kota Kinabalu city mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah and NFCC director general Datuk Seri Shamshun Baharin Mohd. Jamil during a ceremony here recently.

Sabin said the MoC is expected to enhance financial administration and oversight at DBKK.

"The collaboration will improve the city's capacity to detect and address financial mismanagement through real-time data integration, making the administration more transparent and accountable.

"Thereby boosting public confidence in DBKK's governance," he said in a statement.

Shamshun added that the initiative not only reinforces DBKK's internal management but also has the potential to serve as a model for other local authorities nationwide.

" With a robust data-sharing strategy, DBKK will continue to uphold integrity and enhance transparency in city governance.

"This step reflects DBKK's commitment to ensuring all aspects of financial management and crime control are conducted with discipline and compliance, aligned with NFCC's goal to reduce the threat of financial crime."
