KOTA BARU: A nurse has been arrested following the death of a month-old baby boy at a confinement centre here yesterday.
Kota Baru police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said the nurse, in her 20s, was detained to assist police's investigation into the case.
He said police received a report on the incident at 8.24am yesterday.
"Our investigation shows that the incident happened at the centre at 5.30am yesterday.
"The baby was found unconscious after being given milk by a nurse assigned to take care of him.
"The baby was rushed to Kota Baru Medical Centre for treatment but was pronouced dead later," he said in a statement.
He said that police will seek a remand order for the nurse involved at the Magistrate's Court tomorrow.
The case is being investigated under Section 31 (1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
