Nurse pleads not guilty to endangering baby at confinement centre [WATCH]

KOTA BARU: A nurse was charged in the Sessions Court today for allegedly endangering a one-month-old baby at a confinement centre on Sept 9.

Nur Ain Natasha Mohd Sabri, 22, pleaded not guilty before Judge Ahmad Bazli Bahruddin.

She was accused of exposing baby Choo Jyn Hern to harm, potentially causing injury.

The incident occurred between 4.47am and 5.30am at the care centre on Jalan Sultan Yahya Petra.

She was charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which carries a penalty of up to RM50,000 or 20 years in prison, or both.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Edabayu Subhan requested no bail, while defence lawyer Nur Alini Ahamad Kamil sought minimal bail, citing the accused's age, RM2,200 monthly income, and her willingness to cooperate.

The court set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and Oct 20 for mention.

On Sept 10, it was reported that a one-month-old baby boy died at the centre after being found unconscious at 5.30am following a feeding by a nurse, who was later arrested.
