Anwar's ex-aide arrested after guns, drugs found in car [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: A former research assistant to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was arrested last Friday after police allegedly found two pistols and 305g of ganja in the car he was travelling in.

Muhammed Yusoff Rawther was detained around 9.30am on Sept 6 in Kuala Lumpur and is currently under police remand, his lawyer, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali said.

Rafique said the case, initially investigated under the Arms Act 1960, is now being pursued under the Dangerous Drugs Act after the remand application under the Arms Act was rejected.

He added that Yusoff has denied any connection to the pistols and drugs, claiming they were planted to frame him by individuals with personal vendettas.

A urine test also came back negative. Yusoff has provided the names of those he believes are responsible and their ties to political leadership.

Rafique said they have requested permission for Yusoff to file a police report to support his defence and avoid accusations of fabricating his claims later. Yusoff is reportedly concerned for his safety, especially as his civil cases involving prominent figures remain ongoing.

Yusoff's remand ends on Sept 12, with further updates expected later today.

Efforts to contact Kuala Lumpur police for comment are ongoing.
