GEORGE TOWN: Fear of diabetes and tooth decay? Not today for some sweet-toothed visitors at the Jom Heboh Carnival (KJH) here this afternoon.
Four minutes was all it took for 100 of them to snap up a free 1kg pack of sugar each at the New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd (NSTP) booth.
The sugar packs were a gift from the sponsor Central Sugars Refinery Sdn Bhd.
NSTP group managing editor Datuk Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman, who distributed the sugar packs, said at each KJH, the media company would work together with sponsors to carry out a corporate social responsibility programme.
"This time around, we are handing out sugar packs to our visitors.
"We will also hand out more sugar packs to visitors tomorrow, the final day of the KJH," he said.
Zaini said he was glad to see many people coming to KJH and visiting NSTP's booth.
According to NSTP Business Development and Special Projects manager Tengku Kaifi Mirza Tuan Cherit said the initiative was part of its effort to boost the carnival experience and show appreciation to visitors.
He anticipated around 2,000 visitors to participate in activities at the NSTP booth, like the Pencarian Wartawan Cilik and Pet Zootopia, as well as having the chance to receive gifts from sponsors.
The KJH event, which ends tomorrow, features a variety of programmes and activities, giving visitors the chance to interact with artists to mark the upcoming Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian (ABPBH).
