Toll booth chaos: Sarong-clad man throws punches over Touch & Go glitch

JOHOR BARU: In a bizarre altercation captured on dashcam, a sarong-clad man allegedly assaulted a toll booth attendant at Taman Perling, on Sunday after his Touch & Go payment system failed to work.

The two-minute video quickly went viral on X, showing the motorist confronting the toll attendant in a scene that was both chaotic and oddly captivating.

Johor Baru (North) police chief Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh said the incident took place at 1.15pm on Sept 29.

The 35-year-old driver became frustrated when the toll gate malfunctioned, despite having sufficient balance on his Touch & Go card linked to his MyKad.

He then exited his vehicle and confronted the toll worker.

The verbal dispute escalated into a physical altercation, with the sarong-clad motorist throwing punches at the attendant.

Bystanders stepped in to break up the altercation, and both men, who sustained minor injuries, lodged police reports the following day.

The case is being investigated as an affray, which could lead to a penalty of up to six months' imprisonment, a RM1,000 fine, or both.

Balveer urged the public to stay calm during disputes and seek peaceful solutions to avoid unnecessary confrontations.

The unusual sight of the man fighting in a sarong sparked a wave of humorous comments from netizens, many amused by his apparent confidence to engage in a scuffle while wearing an attire that could easily slip.
