KOTA BARU: Foreign motorcyclists must apply for the International Circulation Permit (ICP) if they wish to enter this country, including via the Kelantan checkpoints to pick up Malaysian passengers.
State Road Transport Department (RTD) director Mohd Misuari Abdullah said they must adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
They include possessing a driving licence, wearing crash helmets for motorcyclists and seatbelts for those travelling in a van or car, he said.
"Since August, many Thai-registered vehicles have entered Kelantan to pick up Malaysian tourists who wished to visit the country during the recent long holidays.
"The department would like to remind foreign drivers to apply for the permit (ICP) to enter Malaysia via the Kelantan's checkpoints," he said, adding that they would be stopped from entering the country if they fail to furnish the document at the checkpoints.
Instead, they could only pick up Malaysian passengers on Thailand's side of the checkpoints, he said.
He said the department would continue to conduct operations to nab errant motorists.
It is understood that many Thai motorcyclists have entered Rantau Panjang during the recent public holidays to pick up Malaysian tourists visiting the kingdom.
Their presence, however, raised concerns among local motorcyclists involved in the same business.
