No record of mental health treatment for woman in UiTM crash

KUALA TERENGGANU: There is no record of mental health treatment for a woman involved in the fatal crash last Wednesday that killed three students from the Dungun Campus of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).

"However, we cannot confirm if she has sought treatment in another state," said Terengganu State Health Department Director Datuk Dr Kasemani Embong when contacted by Sinar Harian.

Kasemani urged families whose members might be dealing with mental health concerns to come forward and seek treatment.

"There is no need to feel ashamed about seeking mental health assistance. Our society must change its perception of mental illness.

"We should also support those affected to receive appropriate care, so they can improve in the future," she said.

The woman, a mother of three children, has been remanded for four days beginning yesterday (Oct 10). She appeared confused when she arrived at the Kuala Terengganu Court Complex at 9am yesterday.

The incident happened at 7.35pm when the woman's SUV struck two motorcycles on Jalan Pantai, in front of UiTM Dungun, according to Terengganu deputy police chief Datuk Wan Rukman Wan Hassan.

Three students died and one of the victims suffered severe injuries.

The names of the dead are Khairil Anwar Jamaludin, 20, from Ampang, Selangor; Ku Adib Ku Azmi, 20, from Sungai Buloh, Selangor; and Muhammad Akmal Md Tukirin, 25, from Muar, Johor.

Muhammad Amar Danish Mohammad Ridhuan, 20, from Kuala Lumpur is undergoing treatment at Dungun Hospital after suffering a hip injury.
