MELAKA: A foreign construction worker died, and two others survived a building collapse incident at Jalan Bukit Senjuang here yesterday.
Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit said that in the 6pm incident, the Bangladeshi victim, identified as Jidan, 22, was found trapped in the rubble of a collapsed concrete pillar.
"The victim was discovered at 9.55pm but was only successfully extricated from the debris at 12.16am," he said.
Two survivors, Zubair Ahmed, 32, and Abbas Ghulam, 49, both Pakistani nationals, sustained injuries to several parts of their bodies, including the neck, shoulder, and head. They were rescued from the debris at 6.40pm and 8.45pm, respectively.
"The two are receiving treatment at Hospital Melaka," Patit told the media on-site.
Meanwhile, the State Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Deputy Director, R. Saiful Iswandy R. Hassan, stated that JBPM received a report of the incident at 6.18pm. A total of 81 officers and personnel from the Padang Temu and Melaka Tengah Fire and Rescue Stations, including 35 members of the Special Forces Tactical Rescue Operations (STORM) unit, arrived at the scene within 10 minutes.
"The fire brigade successfully rescued the victims from the rubble of a one-storey building under construction, measuring 18.3 by 24.4 meters," he added.– BERNAMA
