KUALA KRAI: The upper level of the Kuala Krai market was razed in a fire early this morning (Oct 14).
Kuala Krai Fire and Rescue Station chief Nik Ahmad Afsham Nik Pa stated they received an emergency call about the incident at 1.21am.
He said five fire engines and 25 firemen from the Kuala Krai, Sungai Durian, Machang, and Tanah Merah fire stations were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire.
"Upon arrival at the scene, 80 per cent of the upper part of the market was already burned; however, there were no victims.
The swift action of the fire department managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the lower level of the building, and the fire was brought under control by 2.06am," he said when contacted.
He added that the fire was completely extinguished by 3.42am and operations concluded at 5.17am.
The total losses and the cause of the fire are still under investigation.
