BALING: The year is far from over, but Zakiah Ismail's house has already flooded 10 times.
The floods, the most recent of which hit last week, have damaged most of the 69-year-old's belongings and furniture.
"This (most recent flood) is the worst flood so far because the water level rose quite high, up to 1.5 metres, very quickly.
"Everything in the house was damaged."
She said that during one flood, she, her two children, and two grandchildren were trapped in the house until authorities rescued them.
"The water comes in quickly because we live just 100 meters from the Sungai Ketil."
She said the floods damaged the wooden part of the house to the point the structure has rotted away and is unsafe.
The wooden part of the house is where the family seeks shelter and water levels rise until they are moved to a flood relief centre.
She said she is hoping for help to restore the wooden structure so the family have a place to seek shelter when it rains.
Kedah has been hit by several floods this year, displacing thousands of people.
