KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has issued a reminder to vehicle owners to refrain from parking on drain covers, as it hampers cleaning and sanitation work carried out by local council employees.
In a post on its social media page, DBKL said it relies on having clear access to perform regular maintenance and cleaning of drainage systems to prevent flooding but the irresponsible act of some drivers who park blocking the drain covers hinders its ability to keep the drains clean.
"We would like to remind everyone that this action obstructs the efforts of the local council, DBKL, as well as our strategic partners Alam Flora Sdn Bhd and SWCorp, from carrying out essential drainage systems cleaning.
"Failure to clean these drains regularly can lead to the drains getting clogged, ultimately resulting in floods, especially during a heavy rain," the post on City Hall's official Facebook page.
It urged vehicle owners to be mindful about where they park their vehicles, to ensure it does not hamper the duty of others.
DBKL urged everyone to cooperate and park responsibly, keeping public safety and community well-being in mind.
"Let us all work together to keep our streets safe and our drainage systems functioning effectively," it said.
Recently, there have been frequent flooding incidents in the city centre which has brought traffic to a standstill, submerged cars and even caused trees to be uprooted, due to improper water flow and poor drainage system.
