[UDATED] PM will not prevent probe involving Khazanah

BUTTERWORTH: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will leave it to the authorities to carry out investigation into any case involving Khazanah Nasional Bhd.

Although Khazanah's chairman is the prime minister, Anwar said he would not prevent investigation into the company.

"What is being mentioned now about Khazanah is an old case.

"But even if there is a case now, whether the prime minister is the chairman or not, if there is a report, I will not prevent any investigation.

"If there is any wrongdoing, investigate. If there is any case, prosecute. If there is any wrongdoing, punish.

"I don't care. Only then, we can govern fairly," he said at the launch of the National Hawkers and Small Traders Carnival 2024 (HPPK 2024) at PICCA Convention Centre @ Butterworth Arena here today.

Present at today's event were Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick and his deputy Datuk Ramanan Ramakrishnan.

Also present was Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Anwar, however, did not mention any specific case.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, according to Astro Awani had said that it had launched a probe into the RM43.9 million investment loss incurred by Khazanah Nasional and Permodalan Nasional Bhd in FashionValet (FV).

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the investments involved public funds and was a matter of public interest.
