Tenggara Bersatu division chief, committee members resign from party

KOTA TINGGI: The Tenggara division of Bersatu has been dissolved with immediate effect after its chief and committee members announced their resignation from the party today.

Former Tenggara Bersatu division chief, Hassan Rasid, said the decision to leave the party followed careful deliberation and was based on several critical issues.

He said that they no longer had confidence in the party's top leadership, which they deemed ineffective, lacking integrity, and failing to uphold its responsibilities.

"Three eligible Srikandi branches - Bandar Tenggara Selatan, Pengeli Timur, and Pelepah Valley - were excluded from the Srikandi Tenggara division delegates meeting on Oct 26, while the Tenggara division Srikandi committee was suspended from convening.

"At 6.30pm the day before yesterday, we received a WhatsApp message cancelling the three branches' participation in the elections held today.

"The affected branches are Kota Jaya Selatan, Bandar Tenggara Selatan, and Sungai Telor. We only received the official letter from the management yesterday," he said at a press conference at the Sri Teratai Hall, Kampung Batu 4.

Hassan said this situation reflects the top leadership's lack of caution, diligence, and understanding regarding their decisions.

He said that this unanimous decision was made to preserve members' dignity and rights and in response to the management's lack of transparency in addressing the issues.

Meanwhile, five police reports were lodged by himself, the Bandar Tenggara Bersatu branch, Tenggara Selatan Bersatu branch, Pelepah Valley Bersatu branch, and Pengeli Timur Bersatu branch regarding these management issues.

He added that around 500 members from the affected branches are also expected to follow their lead and leave the party.

He informed that the division comprises 19 branches with a total membership of 1,263.

"With this decision, Tenggara Bersatu is effectively dissolved. We were supposed to hold a meeting tonight, and all preparations, including food and hall bookings, had been completed.

"For now, we'll take a break and remain active in non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for the public's welfare. We have no plans to join any other political party," he said.

He also expressed his gratitude to Bersatu president and Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, for his leadership during their time as Bersatu members.
