KUALA LUMPUR: The operating theatres at Sultan Idris Shah Hospital (HSIS) Heart Centre in Serdang, which were affected by a power cut in July, are now back in operation.
Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said the maintenance and repair work was completed on Aug 15.
"The ministry acknowledged a power supply disruption in July, which impacted the hospital, disrupting four operating theatres.
"The Public Works Department (PWD) and the project contractor were notified.
"Swift measures were implemented to identify and address the problems, which stemmed from the wiring, electrical and air-conditioning systems.
"Maintenance and repair works, including upgrades to the main wiring system, backup electrical systems and air conditioning, were completed by Aug 15.
"The operating theatres are now operational," he said in a response to Yeo Bee Yin (Pakatan Harapan-Puchong).
Yeo asked why the four operating theatres failed to operate and their status of the operating theatres.
Lukanisman said the construction of the heart centre was completed on Sept 24, 2022, and was under a defect-liability period of two years, until Sept 24 this year.
He added PWD is responsible for managing the construction and contracts.
PWD and the hospital's maintenance company would monitor the situation, he said.
