SUNGAI GOLOK: The modern dikir barat singer held by Thai police for allegedly possessing drugs last Friday, was on the way to perform in Kedah when she was arrested.
According to a relative, the 29-year-old was accompanied by her husband for the Kedah trip. The 34-year-old husband and four others were also arrested by the Thai police for allegedly having 6,000 Yaba pills.
"It is normal for the couple to go through Thailand when they travelled to Kedah or other northern states.
"They would usually stop at Sungai Golok town for leisure or meet some friends before continuing the journey," said a woman who declined to be named.
A brother of one of the six said they would leave it to the Thai police to investigate the case.
"We will cooperate with the police in the investigation.
"We hope Malaysians do not speculate the case. Let the Thai police carry out its probe into the case," said the brother.
He added that the families of the six were shocked about the incident and believed they were innocent.
He claimed that the six had been "betrayed" by friends and prayed that the culprits would be caught soon.
The two were met at Sungai Golok police station here today while waiting for the six to be sent to Narathiwat provincial court.
More than 50 family members and relatives of the six were spotted at the station as early as 8am before they were sent to the court about 11.30am.
Several policemen were monitored the crowd.
