KUALA LUMPUR: The viral video of a restaurant worker spitting in food was not shot anywhere in the federal capital.
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), in a posting, said it wanted to clarify an earlier posting stating that action had been taken against two restaurants in the Mont Kiara and Desa Sri Hartamas areas.
In that posting, City Hall had said that, following the video going viral, its enforcement officers had conducted checks at two branches of a restaurant, where they issued two compound fine notices.
"DBKL would like to refer to our posting on Oct 23 regarding the actions taken against two restaurants. DBKL had conducted checks on both premises following the viral video showing a restaurant worker packing food without following proper food safety and hygiene standards.
"Following the posting, the management of both restaurants had met with DBKL and presented evidence and police reports against the individual who had produced the viral video in question.
"DBKL would like to stress that while action was taken against the restaurants (during the inspections) for several offences, neither of them were the premises at which the video was taken. The restaurant featured in the video is likely located outside of Kuala Lumpur," it said.
DBKL, however, reminded restaurant owners to ensure that the cleanliness of their premises, workers and food handling procedures are always prioritised.
