KUALA LUMPUR: The Land Public Transport Agency (Apad) has announced that the Container Depot Terminal Licensing will take effect starting next year.
In a statement, the agency said that any parties operating container depot terminals outside of the areas gazetted under the Port Authorities Act 1963 (Act 488) or the Penang Port Commission Act 1955 (Act 140) must apply for a container depot terminal licence with the agency.
All off-dock container depot terminal operators need to apply immediately once applications open to ensure that Apad licences all relevant container depot terminals before the enforcement date.
The application can be made starting today through the Commercial Vehicle Licensing System portal.
"The Transport Ministry has agreed to grant a one-year moratorium, including an exemption from the annual licence fee and other conditions related to the container depot system, as well as upgrades to machinery and inventory."
It added that the licence enforcement is per the Land Public Transport (Terminal Licensing) (Container Depot) Regulations 2024, which is a set of rules involved that was finalised based on the current needs.
Furthermore, the licence is also applicable to container depot owners, container depot licence holders, licensed goods vehicle service operators, and container depot terminal users connected to a container depot for the storage of containers used for either import or export purposes.
