KUANTAN: A Form Three student who was reported missing on Nov 9 after allegedly running away from her house at Kampung Paya Chedung, Maran has been found safe at a friend's place.
Police located Ummul Ayuni Atiqah Mohd Khamis, 15, in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan on Nov 13.
Maran police chief Superintendent Wong Kim Wai said they received information leading them to inspect the residence.
"Investigations revealed that Ummul Ayuni followed a friend to Kuala Lumpur after leaving Maran. She stayed there for several days before going to Seremban," said Wong.
"A friend was also present at the premises when the police arrived."
According to Ummul Ayuni's family, this was her third attempt to leave home. She had previously tried twice but was unsuccessful. This time, she was missing for five days before being found by police.
"The girl is safe and has been reunited with her family. There are no physical injuries on her and we believe she was influenced by her friends to leave home," he told reporters when met at the Alor Akar police logistics complex here today.
Wong had earlier attended the Pahang police contingent's Deepavali open house and the opening of a gymnasium for policemen at the complex by Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman here.
Wong said police will be questioning Ummul Ayuni's friends to gather more details about the incident. However, he declined to comment further.
Ummul Ayuni's mother had lodged a missing person report on Nov 10 after she failed to return home.
On Nov 12, Yahaya said Ummul Ayuni is believed to have followed a friend to a northern state.
