TAPAH: Police have arrested a man yesterday for suspected road bullying at Km350.4 of the North-South Expressway (NSE) near Sungkai.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Naim Asnawi said police detected a video circulating on the TikTok platform yesterday.
However, at press time, the video had been taken down by the TikTok user.
Naim said that the edited video showed an incident involving a silver car on the expressway.
"Further checks revealed that the incident occurred on Thursday at 11.10am. The police also received a report from the 61-year-old victim regarding the incident on the same day at 9.43pm.
"The victim claimed that while driving his multi-purpose vehicle in the right lane of the expressway heading towards Penang, a silver car suddenly approached from behind and abruptly cut in front of his vehicle at KM350.4 of the NSE near Sungkai," he said in a statement.
Naim said the victim immediately braked and honked at the vehicle, before the suspect suddenly slowed down and stopped in the middle of the road.
"When the victim attempted to overtake the vehicle, the suspect blocked his way and made a few obscene gestures towards him," he added.
Naim said at 4.15pm yesterday, a team from the Tapah Criminal Investigation Department arrested the male suspect to assist in investigations.
"A background check revealed that the suspect has six criminal records related to drug offences and crime," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 279 of the Penal Code for dangerous driving and Section 509 of the Penal Code for a word or gesture intended to insult the modesty of a person.
Naim advised the public to remain calm and patient while driving and not to speculate on the incident.
"Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Nurul Syaheera Mad Husin, at 05-401 1222 or 019-573 9131," he said.
