Asean Festival 2024 celebrates cultures, strengthens ties

NILAI: The second edition of the Asean Festival 2024, held at Gembox Nilai here, attracted 30,000 local and international visitors during the four-day event, which ended yesterday.

Festival founder Eldrick Koh said a variety of activities showcasing regional art and culture were held throughout the event.

"The festival offered visitors a unique and enriching experience, featuring Asean's diverse heritage, including arts, culture, food, music, and performances by local artists," he said.

The festival featured cultural performances from Asean countries, craft product exhibitions, family colouring contests, sports activities, concerts by popular artists, and food and beverage stalls.

Koh spoke to reporters after the official opening of the festival, which was officiated by Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry International Cultural Relations Division secretary Dr Chistina Yeo.

At the event, 20 individuals received the Youth Achievement Records award in recognition of their talents and achievements across various fields, certified by the Youth and Sports Ministry.

Koh said the festival was supported by the Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry, Tourism Malaysia, and the embassies of Asean countries, with partnerships from various associations and organisations as strategic collaborators.

"Through the participation of various countries in the activities, the festival strengthened regional ties through cultural exchange," he added.

He also noted that recognising young achievers helps promote excellence and ambition, encouraging other youths to strive for success.

He further emphasised that the collaboration of various parties reflected a shared commitment to fostering cultural unity and promoting local tourism, making it a cross-border, collaborative effort.

"This event helps bring people together through culture, tourism, cuisine, and trade exchange," he said.
