Pahang set to host all-women RXZ motorcycle gathering

KUANTAN: Pahang is ready to host an all-women Yamaha RXZ motorcycle enthusiasts' gathering following the success of its inaugural RXZ Fighter event in March this year, which drew riders and owners of the classic 133cc motorcycle nationwide.

Pahang Social Welfare, Women, Family and Community Development Committee chairman Datuk Sabariah Saidan said the state government would provide full support to ensure the success of the gathering.

"However, it depends on the club (RXZ club to decide), but if they plan a gathering for female RXZ riders in Pahang, we will certainly extend our support. Pahang under Menteri Besar (Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail) has never declined programmes that benefit the community. We can consider it (the all-female RXZ gathering).

"I fully support programmes that are specifically dedicated to women, especially promoting a healthy lifestyle.

"The participants will have to prioritise their safety and ensure that they have all the necessary documents (if they choose to participate in bikers' gatherings)," she told reporters after opening the Malaysia women RXZ Club's gathering in Cherating here today.

A total of 350 female RXZ riders aged between 19 and 42 from Peninsular Malaysia had gathered at a resort here on the occasion of the club's third anniversary this year.

Sabariah said such gatherings served as a platform for women from different backgrounds to network with one another, exchange ideas and establish new friendships.

"I was informed that participants here included teachers, nurses and entrepreneurs, so the club has a diverse group of people who ride together to enjoy nature and outdoor activities while making new friends," she said.

Meanwhile, Malaysia women RXZ club president Siti Shafida Abdul Ghani said they were aiming for the gathering here to be recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for the most number of female participants.

"We have about 535 registered members nationwide and today more than 300 of the proud RXZ bike owners have gathered in Cherating with their machines for a three-day event.

"The club adviser will be speaking with the MBOR representative," she said.

On March 1 this year, Pahang held the RXZ Fighter event which saw riders from far-flung corners of the country attending the two-day event at Tanjung Lumpur here.

Launched in 1985, the RXZ is a two-stroke "naked" motorcycle manufactured by Yamaha Motor Corporation. It was very popular in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, and was a best-seller until production ceased in 2011.
