ALOR STAR: The number of evacuees in Kedah has risen significantly, with over 1,000 more displaced today as Kuala Muda became the sixth district affected by the floods.
According to a 4pm update from the State Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, the total number of evacuees in Kedah has reached 5,701, up from 4,379 this morning.
All evacuees are being sheltered in 43 temporary flood relief centers (PPS) across the six districts.
Kubang Pasu remains the hardest-hit district, with 2,320 evacuees from 753 families now at 15 PPS, an increase from 1,708 reported earlier today.
In Padang Terap, 1,164 people from 335 families are taking refuge in nine PPS, while Kota Setar has 976 evacuees from 297 families in five PPS.
Sik is the third most affected district, with 651 people from 143 families sheltered in three PPS. In Pokok Sena, 533 people from 168 families are at four PPS.
Kuala Muda has now become the sixth district affected, with 57 people from 19 families relocated to a PPS at Dewan MPSPK Jeniang.
