ALOR STAR: The number of flood evacuees in Kedah has slightly decreased, with 8,400 individuals still displaced as weather conditions improved this afternoon.
In a 4pm update by the Kedah Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, the total number of evacuees recorded was 8,468, down from 9,129 reported at noon today.
All evacuees were being housed in 52 temporary flood relief centres across seven districts.
Kota Setar remained the hardest hit, with 3,421 evacuees from 1,023 families now staying at 14 relief centres, up from 3,301 earlier.
This was followed by Kubang Pasu, where 2,490 evacuees from 791 families were taking refuge in 15 centres. In Sik, there were 987 evacuees from 329 families in seven centres.
Padang Terap had 743 evacuees from 211 families staying at nine relief centres, whereas in Pokok Sena, 614 evacuees from 183 families were sheltering in four centres.
Kuala Muda had 182 evacuees from 54 families relocated to two relief centres, and Baling had 31 evacuees from 12 families sheltering in a single facility.
Kubang Pasu police chief Superintendent Mohd Redzuan Salleh said seven roads in the district remained closed or partially closed due to flooding.
The affected roads were:
1. Jalan Tanah Merah to Wang Tepus
2. Jalan Kelubi Luar to Kampung Malau
3. Jalan Jitra to Kampung Kelubi (Tunnel)
4. Jalan Batu 9 Jitra to Alor Rambai / Kepala Batu
5. Jalan Kampung Natoi to Kampung Lembah/Kampung Bendang Lama (open to light vehicles only)
6. Jalan Titi Besi to Kampung Pasir (open to heavy vehicles only)
7.Jalan Kepala Batas to Titi Besi (open to heavy vehicles only)
