'Umi, wait for Adam': Last words of teen killed in road accident

KEPALA BATAS: A young man's final message to his mother was left unheard after he was killed in a traffic accident while heading back to his hometown.

"Umi, wait for Adam to come back, Adam has something to tell Umi. Once I get back, I'll tell you."

That was the last message sent by 18-year-old Muhammad Adam Mifdal Mohd Affendy, who lost his life in the accident involving three victims at Plaza Tol Sungai Dua this morning.

His mother, Siti Zaharan Shaari, 44, said the National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage (Aswara) student, majoring in music student, was on his way home to perform at the Kedah International Bike Week in Alor Setar, which was set to begin today.

"The message came late at night, and he was really excited about going home and performing. I can still hear our conversation from last night, when he told me they were leaving Kuala Lumpur this morning.

"When I heard the news (about his death) around 11am, I was so shocked that I couldn't do anything," she told reporters at the Kepala Batas Hospital forensic unit here today.

Zaharan said she felt uncertain for not knowing what the eldest of the four siblings wanted to tell her but accepted it as part of God's will.

She described her late son as a cheerful, approachable and well-liked by his friends. He also enjoyed keeping her updated on his personal life and daily activities.

"Before this, he told me he wanted to bring his friends from Kuala Lumpur to visit Alor Setar. All his friends found him easy to be around," she said.

Zaharan said her son's body would be brought back to their hometown in Taman Bersatu, Kuala Kedah, and laid to rest at the Taman Bersatu Islamic Cemetery.

The college student was killed and two others injured after the car they were travelling in crashed into a road divider at Plaza Tol Sungai Dua on the North-South Expressway heading south, at around 9.40am.
