PASIR MAS: Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay today confirmed that police have opened an investigation into the 114 crank calls they received regarding floods.
Speaking at a press conference here, Ayub said police would take further action against the crank callers after the flood season ended.
He also warned the public that police would not hesitate to take stern action against them under Section 233 of the Communications & Multimedia Act 1998.
"I was told that 114 of the 1,987 calls received by Pasir Mas police during the last flood were crank calls made by irresponsible members of the public. I would like to warn them to stop doing this. Otherwise they must face the consequences.
"We will open investigation papers for the individuals who made the 114 crank calls and proceed with our next move after flood has receded."
He added that crank calls were received not only by the Kelantan police, but also by the authorities in other states affected by floods.
