TUMPAT: The Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department received more than 300 emergency calls in five hours on Nov 27.
State Fire and Rescue Department (operation) assistant director Mohd Wildan Azhari said the calls were received mostly after midnight until 5am.
"On that day the number of emergency calls we received increased drastically. We received more than 300 calls in just five hours," he said at the SK Padang Pohon Tanjong flood relief centre here today.
Wildan said it was the highest number of calls received by the department following the first wave of floods. With the cooperation of other rescue agencies, he said the department managed to resolve the problems faced by flood victims.
"I admitted that we couldn't act on some of the calls immediately, especially during nighttime. However, with the help of other agencies, we rescued the victims," he said.
He advised the public especially those living in low-lying areas to evacuate immediately once ordered by the authorities.
"This is for their safety. We do not want flood victims to land themselves in trouble if they move at the last minute when their homes are already flooded," he added.
