KUALA LUMPUR: The Universiti Malaya Feminism Club has urged the university to act against a professor accused of sharing nude photographs with several students.
The club made its demand in a memorandum submitted to UM's integrity unit.
It said that the university has a responsibility to eliminate sexual harassment.
"The academic success and well-being of the entire campus community depend on the university's commitment to taking decisive action on this issue and safeguarding the rights of every student and staff member," said the club's president, Chin Jes Weng.
She outlined three demands by the club to prevent recurring sexual harassment incidents, including the immediate suspension of the professor and an investigation into his actions.
"Third, to improve campus safety policies, the university must address weaknesses in its sexual harassment policies.
"There is a need for clearer policies, better student awareness, and faster action to create a safer campus," she said, adding that this was crucial as 60.4 per cent of the university's 2023 intake comprised female students.
Previously, UM confirmed receiving a report regarding a case of an academician accused of sharing nude photographs with several students.
It stated that the matter had been referred to the authorities for investigation.
The university's statement followed allegations by the club that the professor's nude photographs had been printed and displayed around the campus as a warning to other students before being taken down.
The photographs also went viral.
