JELI: Police have denied that the dashcam recording taken from its patrol car involved in an accident at Km10 Jalan Jeli-Dabong on Dec 19 has gone missing.
District police chief, Superintendent Saari Yaacob, said the recording was actually taken by the investigation officer handling the case.
He added that the dashcam recording was taken to enable the police to carry out their investigation into the case.
"It is not true that the recording went missing. It was actually taken by the officer. The recording will be brought as evidence in court later," he added.
He said it is normal procedure for the investigation officer to take the dashcam from any vehicle involved in an accident.
"If the vehicles have a dashcam, the officer will take it immediately after the crash as court evidence," he said.
Saari said the police, however, would not hesitate to take action against any officer caught 'stealing' or 'hiding' the recording.
It was reported that a teenager sustained serious injuries after crashing his motorcycle into a police patrol car on Km10 of Jalan Jeli-Dabong on Thursday night.
The patrol car was travelling from Kuala Balah to Jeli when the crash occurred at about 4.20pm. Initial investigations revealed that the patrol car swerved to avoid a dog crossing the road.
However, the motorcyclist, who was closely following the car, failed to stop in time and collided with the right side of the vehicle. The collision caused the motorcyclist to suffer severe head and body injuries, and he was quickly rushed to Jeli Hospital for treatment.
