KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has launched an enforcement operation against illegal parking touts in Jinjang Utara.
According to their Facebook post, DBKL's Enforcement Department and Batu Branch Office led the Dec 30 raid. They targeted the informal parking spots that have plagued the Kepong district.
The illegal parking touts would place obstacles to block parking spots or set up makeshift barriers to extort money from motorists.
Enforcement teams swept the area, seizing traffic cones, tyres, paint buckets and barriers used to illegally reserve public parking spots.
All the seized items were sent to the Jalan Lombong depot in Taman Miharja, Cheras, as evidence under the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.
"This practice of commandeering public parking spots for private gain must stop. We will intensify our surveillance of known hotspots and take swift action against the offenders," said DBKL.
DBKL has urged residents to flag similar parking rackets through their official complaints portal at adukl.dbkl.gov.my.
