Cameron Highlands Mossy Forest closed indefinitely after landslide

KUANTAN: The Taman Eko Rimba (TER) Mossy Forest in Cameron Highlands has been temporarily closed from yesterday onwards, until further notice, following a landslide that blocked the road to the tourist centre last Sunday.

The Pahang State Forestry Department (JPNP) has also announced the suspension of hiking activities on Gunung Irau during this period. Tourists are urged to comply with the issued notice to ensure their safety.

JPNP Forest Parks senior assistant director, Muhamad Rahman Mustafa, said that contractors appointed by the department will be responsible for clearing the landslide and repairing the road slopes to TER Mossy Forest and Gunung Irau.

He said that tour guides, mountain guides, and vehicle service providers to the area have been informed not to accept bookings from tourists wishing to visit the two locations.

The temporary closure of TER Mossy Forest and Gunung Irau is a precautionary measure taken for public safety due to the current unpredictable weather conditions.

"The landslide was caused by continuous rain in Cameron Highlands. For the safety of tourists, we have to temporarily close the area to carry out cleaning work," Muhamad Rahman Mustafa said.

"We estimate that TER Mossy Forest will be closed for two to three weeks, depending on the time required to clear the landslides and fallen trees," he added.
