KUALA LUMPUR: Smokers, beware. Plain clothes Health Ministry enforcement officers may be watching you.
A recent viral video on TikTok showed a man being slapped with a compound for smoking at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 by two people dressed in plain clothes, believed to be Health Ministry officials.
The man, who was smoking outside the terminal building, was however smoking right next to a No Smoking sign.
The clip was uploaded by TikTok user @hanif_zubair, who captured the moment on video.
It was captioned: "I'm sorry brother. It's not that I did not want to warn you, they (Health Ministry officers) came before I could."
In the comments section, netizens praised the efforts by the ministry, with many of them suggesting that they come to their area.
Many also expressed their displeasure with having to deal with smokers especially while dining out.
A user LiveWithPurpose hoped that the authorities would conduct the same operation at restaurants.
"I cannot even eat in peace, suddenly there will be smoke coming from cigarettes when I dine outdoors."
Another user, Jia Hui urged the ministry to make rounds at kopitiams in Penang.
"I cannot tahan (stand) these old uncles, especially on rainy day they smoke even frequently and the smoke is stuck under the roof (sic)."
Meanwhile, Lia Eliana praised the ministry's efforts and said some smokers sometimes were inconsiderate of their surroundings.
"Sometimes they would even smoke in front of babies," she said.
