KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a man who was filmed hurling abusive words and hitting a female driver's head in a video that has gone viral on social media.

In the 59-second video posted by Facebook user Aizacd Zack, a man clad in a red t-shirt was seen getting out of his car, knocking on the driver's window and berating the female driver over her driving when she rolled down the window.

"Drive your car properly. Your (driving) is endangering other people's lives. Don't mess around! Don't make me hit you!" the man was heard saying in the video.

The female driver was seen trying to explain her situation to the angry man, but he continued hurling abusive words at her.

He was then seen hitting the driver's head more than once.

It was believed that the incident had happened while the victim was on her way to Tapah from Cameron Highlands yesterday afternoon.

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said following the incident; the female driver had lodged a report at the Saujana Utama Police Station in Sungai Buloh, Selangor, at 10am today.

"Initial investigation found that the incident happened yesterday at 5.33pm when the female driver was driving to Tapah from Cameron Highlands.

"The female driver, who was with her 17-year-old brother, wanted to overtake the man's grey Persona car, but she could not do so, and the man showed obscene gestures," he said in a statement.

When the road became congested near Lata Iskandar Resort here, Mohd Yusri said the man confronted the female driver and began scolding and hurling threatening words at her.

Mohd Yusri said further check on the man's vehicle registration number showed that the car belongs to a woman who lives in Tanjung Karang, Selangor.

"Police managed to locate the man in Serdang, Selangor, and he will be taken to the Tapah district police headquarters here for further investigation," he said, adding that the man works as a factory supervisor.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt, Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 509 of the Penal Code for intent to insult a woman's modesty.
