BALIK PULAU: Police detained a man on suspicion of attacking a female driver on Thursday.
A video footage of the incident has since gone viral.
Southwest district police chief Superintendent Kamarul Rizal Jenal said, about 9.31am yesterday, they came across a 14-second video footage, uploaded by Twitter user Nan Manjoi8715, who alleged that a man had attacked a driver.
He said, following that, police managed to detain a 32-year-old, believed to have been involved in the incident at Jalan Permatang Damar Laut, Batu Maung on Thursday.
"Initial investigation revealed the man, who was on a motorcycle, was dissatisfied with the car driver, who had caused an accident.
"This resulted in him to hit the female driver with a helmet," he said.
Kamarul said the man would be produced for remand today.
The case is probed under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
"We urged those who witness or have any information on the incident to contact the district police headquarters at 04-8662222 to assist in investigation," he added.
The incident came days after a man was filmed hurling abusive words and hitting a female driver's head at Lata Iskandar, Km22 Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands on June 5.
Yesterday, the Tapah magistrate's court sentenced the man, Mohammad Zaim Faiz Tarmizi, 29, to seven days' in jail after he pleaded guilty to charges of voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
In the 59-second video posted by Facebook user Aizacd Zack, a man clad in a red t-shirt was seen getting out of his car, knocking on the driver's window and berating the female driver over her driving when she rolled down the window.
The female driver was seen trying to explain her situation to the angry man, but he continued hurling abusive words at her. He was then seen hitting the driver's head more than once.
