KUALA LUMPUR: Perlis mufti Datuk Dr Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin posting on X referring to Adolf Hitler received strong criticism from netizens.
In his post on X (formerly known as Twitter), he wrote: "Adolf Hitler knew them better than us."
It was worth noting that Adolf Hitler was the leader of Nazi Germany, responsible for the death of six million Jews.
Mohd Asri shared a video on X depicting a child searching through lifeless bodies for a particular individual. After finding the person, the child knelt down and kissed the deceased's face.
This post garnered over 48,000 views and was flooded with people criticising Mohd Asri over the uncalled for caption.
@annoyedmsian asked him to stop commenting on this issue: "You are openly condoning anti-Semitism and the Holocaust, which can complicate matters and distort the narrative that this is a Jews versus Muslim fight, which is not true.
"You are proving to the world that Malaysians indeed view this war as a religious one, which is a tainted narrative. Stop it,"
Another social media user, @auntymarx, commented: "Are you outing yourself as a Nazi? Your antisemitism is repugnant and a disgrace."|
@anuarmahyu remarked: "If you support Hitler, you are no better than a Zionist. Even the mufti is misguided and can't understand simple things like this."
@ShahHafiz3103 stated: "Cruel perception. Many survivors came out against what Israel is doing now."
This comes after heightened tensions between Israel and Palestine following the Oct 7 conflicts where Hamas carried out a complex attack targeting Israeli settlements near Gaza.
