KUALA LUMPUR: A 'tahfiz' school's Facebook page has shared a heart-wrenching story of a student who was unable to return home during the school holiday period because his parents failed to bring him back.
The post, shared by Maahad Tahfiz AlQuran AlUzma Lilaitam - Yatim & Asnaf, highlights the distressing situation where attempts to contact the student's parents have been unsuccessful.
The accompanying image shows the student deep in contemplation while seated in front of the schoolyard in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
Maahad Tahfiz AlQuran AlUzma Lilaitam, founder Romuza Ghani told the New Straits Times that the school had made numerous attempts to reach out to the student's guardian, only to discover that the father had changed his contact number.
"The student comes from divorced parents, with his father being the official guardian who had sent him here.
"Previously, his father would come to pick him up, but the last time the student saw his father was during the first day of Hari Raya Aidil Adha last year and there has been no contact since," he said.
He further disclosed the challenges faced by the school in locating the guardian's house, as the father resides in a rental house and frequently relocates.
Expressing his frustration, Romuza emphasised that despite having parents, the student had been left unattended during the holiday period, with no attempt made by his family to communicate with the school.
"While we have some orphans here, their relatives still contact us and inquire about their well-being," he said.
The heartrending post has sparked an outpouring of support and concern for the student in the comment section in Facebook.
"I've been married for 8 years and still don't have kids; I would visit him if it's near to me," said user Adlina Azyyati Nik Hassan.
Hana Hassan pledged her support by commenting: "Hopefully, this boy will be a successful person in the future. It's far for me to go, otherwise, I will come to visit."
Nurul Adila, however, speculated on the student's background, assuming he may come from a disadvantaged family.
In the absence of family support, Romuza and his wife have taken the student under their guardianship. However, they remain hopeful that the student's relatives or guardian will contact the school.
