KUALA LUMPUR: Parking space these days is a premium, especially in the cities.
Many resort to leaving their vehicles illegally parked on roadsides, sometimes creating a nuisance to other road users.
But should "vigilante justice" be the norm?
That is exactly the debate one social media posting has dragged up.
This is after Facebook user Andre Teow posted pictures of a white Tesla with the words "Park properly, lah" scribbled on the hood in blue ink.
The pictures, posted in the Facebook group Mont Kiara Community, was accompanied by the caption "Another awesome parker. Someone's fancy Tesla got marked by a hero. Seen opposite Qra this evening."
Opinions in the comments varied, with some supporting the act and calling the vandal a "hero", while others criticised the selective targeting of the Tesla instead of addressing all illegally parked cars in the vicinity.
Catherine commented: "(The owner) stays in Mont Kiara, drives an expensive car, but has no standard. What's the use to the community?"
Meanwhile, WL Kun called the supposed hero "quite dumb" as Teslas have sentry mode, meaning the person's face had probably been captured and the vehicle's owner can lodge a police report with that picture.
User Satvinder Kaur, however, took issue with the actions of the vandal.
"To those who think this is alright or to the one who did this, I really hope you are a law-abiding citizen at all times, if not, something like that will happen to you and you can't cry about it."
Nick Ng, meanwhile, said that although action violates the law, there must be a reason for the vandalism.
"The car owner should also take responsibility for illegally parking in the wrong place, which may cause traffic inconvenience," he said.
