#NSTviral: Motorcyclist alleges accidents being staged to extort foreigners

JOHOR BARU: A motorcyclist alleged that a group of Malaysian-registered motorcycle riders were staging accidents to extort money from Singaporean bikers heading to Johor via Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI).

A 46-second video recorded by the foreigner's motorcyclist dash camera was uploaded onto the Malaysia-Singapore Border Crossers Facebook group yesterday.

The footage showed the foreigner and his pillion rider passing a group of motorcyclists, believed to be Malaysians, who were idling by the roadside after exiting the Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex at BSI, towards Johor Baru.

Seconds later, another motorcyclist was seen manoeuvring his bike close to the foreigner's motorcycle, appearing to deliberately attempt to crash his top-box storage into the foreigner's handle brake lever.

A second motorcyclist, believed to be an accomplice, then sandwiched the foreigner's bike, which led to a tense, inaudible exchange.

The foreigner was captured pointing at his dashcam during the incident.

In the Facebook post, he claimed that the two motorcyclists had attempted to extort money from him as compensation for the damages.

However, he claimed that when they realised they were being recorded, they quickly rode off.

The New Straits Times has contacted Johor Baru (south) police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, for confirmation.
