KUALA LUMPUR: The owner of an electric vehicle was 'caught' for connecting the charger for his vehicle before the electricity meter of his home.
X app user @update11111 shared a video on the platform, saying; "The thing has already been exposed, so just act like you don't know. Stealing electricity and pretending not to understand (the situation) apparently."
In the one-minute and 30-second video, staff from Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) was seen explaining to the owner that the power supply for his EV home charger was connected before the meter, therefore the electricity usage was not recorded.
The staff further explained to the owner that the charger must be reinstalled properly.
He also mentioned that the act was a violation of the Electricity Supply Act 1990.
The owner then responded, saying that he was not aware of it as the installation was carried out by the technicians.
The TNB staff then 'acknowledged' that it could have been an error made by the technicians who installed the unit.
He also explained that the incorrect installation had triggered an alarm at the TNB office.
Owner: So, it was installed before the meter? Should it have been installed after the meter?
TNB staff: Yes, it should be after the meter.
Owner: I don't know about that; it was the technician who did it.
TNB staff: That's alright, we will rectify this.
New Straits Times has reached out to TNB for comment.
