KUALA LUMPUR: A video showing a school gym packed with kids and parents waiting for a taekwondo tournament ceremony to begin has gone viral, with many criticising the event's poor organisation and treatment of attendees.
In a video originally posted by user H@nie on TikTok, the emcee was seen scolding the crowd of kids and parents for being noisy as they waited for VIPs to arrive, sparking backlash online.
Other parents who attended the same event voiced similar frustrations and explained what happened after the outburst.
Sara Afisha Ziqran shared, "I waited nine hours for my child's turn (in the tournament). I almost grew roots there" while user planethollyfood said the emcee did not appear the next day after complaints from parents circulated in a WhatsApp group.
Netizens online were less than thrilled at the sight, especially with parents in attendance in a formal setting.
Si Ikan criticised the emcee's tone, comparing it to a "school-level programme."
Others, such as user _eyl05, wondered why the guest of honour's tardiness became a problem others should bear.
"The VIP is late but the children are scolded?" the user asked.
