KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's rich cultural tapestry was on full display when a dikir barat troupe comprising students of SJKC Poey Sit in Pulai Chondong, Kelantan wowed a crowd at an event.
Dikir Barat is a traditional Malay music genre whucgis deeply-rooted in Kelantanese culture. It combines poetry, chanting and singing, and it often conveys advice and words of wisdom in the form of song.
The boys who made up the troupe gave an energetic performance which got the crowd going. Some adults were also seen taking videos and photographs of their children as they performed.
What was even more interesting was the pitch-perfect pronunciation by the students, who faithfully followed how this artform should be performed.
The troupe was led by a very capable 'tukar karut', which is the person who leads the choruses for all dikir barat performances. All the boys were decked in tradditional headgear and wrapped in songket sarung.
The video has garnered 150,600 views and 15,300 likes.
Social medua user @pyan_mitsubishi said it was proof that unity can be fostered at a very young age.
"All races live harmoniously in Kelantan," he said.
Netizen @wan_shah01 praised the performance as a perfect showcase of "real unity" among the younger generation.
Additionally, @faxpaper11 commented: "This is the right way. We shouldn't focus on different races but instead uphold our traditions rather than adopting outside influences."
