KUALA LUMPUR: With pomp and pageantry fit for the real thing, MYSverse, a long-running server aimed at simulating Malaysia in the popular online video game Roblox, witnessed the swearing in of its 22nd prime minister.
Within what looks to be a faithful recreation of Istana Negara, the game's signature blocky characters sported black baju Melayu, songkok, and gold sampin.
A video posted on TikTok by user National Wire Service Roblox in December 2024 said the "member of parliament for Kinabatangan" KochengCheesy was sworn in after the conclusion of the "22nd General Election".
In the video, KochengCheesy was seen holding the iconic red folder in the presence of a stand-in for the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, typing out his oath of office in the chat.
The video has attracted curiosity by netizens, who wished to know more about the project.
According to replies by the original poster, MYSverse, established in 2014, includes a simulation of "the nation's democratic and political systems for education", as seen in the video.
The parties competing for MYSverse's highest public office are fictional and participated by the youth, "who are excited to learn politics well and wisely".
An election is held every three to four months, and 1,434 eager users voted in this election.
Many netizens applaud the project's initiative to expose the future generation to the fundamentals of Malaysian governance.
"This is a good video game. People can learn about how our government and nation is formed. It has a good impact on the younger generation. Congratulations," said user alifahelyana.
Meanwhile, user afdy lemon said: "Instilling democracy through the metaverse is an innovation in education."
"Awesome. While playing, one can learn about the formation of our nation's parliamentary democracy," said user Asbul Roslan.
