KUALA LUMPUR: Local TikToker with the moniker Eyda faced backlash from Malaysian netizens after she uploaded a video of her "farting" on a Royal Malaysian Navy ship recently.
The indecent act has been described as damaging to the Navy's reputation.
"Stupid content," said a netizen, Rudy Manawi.
It was believed that Eyda recorded the video during the Armada Open Day 2023 which took place in Teluk Sepanggar, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Based on checks done, Command Naval Headquarters had posted on Twitter guidelines for the public to follow during visit to the Navy base.
Among them were warning visitors not to upload photos or videos that may tarnish the image of the Navy, create social media content that intends to insult, defame, undermine or ridicule the credibility of the Navy, and provoke or cause a commotion.
However, based on her video, netizens believed that Eyda might have received consent before posting the video on social media.
Other netizens commented, "Our society is getting worse because it's unstoppable. They do things that don't bring benefits, maybe someday they will make nude content just to gain money".
Following the backlash, Eyda has uploaded an apology video two days ago and has since taken down the "farting" video from her account.
"I would like to humbly apologise to TLDM regarding the unintentional content and degrading the Navy's assets," she said.
A question, however, remained as to why the personnel featured in her video agreed to be part of it.
The New Straits Times has reached out to the Navy for further clarification but has yet to receive official responses regarding the issue.
