Kedah MIC deputy chief Datuk Dr S. Ananthan nominated as senator

ALOR STAR: Kedah MIC deputy chief Datuk Dr S. Ananthan has been nominated as senator from the state to the Dewan Negara.

Ananthan, 50, will succeed Sungai Petani Umno deputy division chief Datuk Shahanim Mohd Yusoff whose term ends on May 20.

Ananthan's nomination was approved at the Kedah state legislative assembly meeting here this morning.

His name was proposed by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah and was seconded by Datuk Suraya Yaacob (BN-Sungai Tiang).

Ananthan who currently serves as Bashah’s special officer, was a former lecturer at

Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Sultan Abdul Halim in Sungai Petani before joining Aimst University as its public relations officer.

During the same sitting today, the state legislative assembly also agreed to nominate former Jerai Umno division chief Datuk Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah as senator for a second term.

Ananthan, in a statement, said the nomination is the state government’s acknowledgement for the Indian community in Kedah.

“I hope to bring the voice of the Indian community to the Dewan Negara and continue serving the people in Kedah,” said.
