SUNGAI PETANI: Police have arrested a man for driving against traffic and causing a head-on collision with another car at Km81.5 of the North-South Expressway early today.
Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said police were alerted to the incident about 12.15am today.
"Investigations revealed that the 24-year-old man had driven against the traffic for a distance of 40 kilometres.
"He claimed that he did so because he missed the Alor Star Selatan exit. He kept on driving before colliding head-on with another car driven by a 53-year-old man," Azharuddin said.
Both drivers survived without injuries. Azharuddin said the man from Gurun was subsequently arrested and taken to the district traffic police station for further investigations.
"We have recorded his statement and his car has been impounded. His urine and blood samples have been sent to the Chemistry Department for toxicology tests," he said.
