KUALA LUMPUR: The 71st Umno general assembly which will raise its curtain tomorrow is set to gear up party members for the looming 14th general election.
Umno executive secretary Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said as it would be the final assembly before the election, it was vital to motivate party members.
“Party grassroots members must be well prepared as this will be the final assembly before we face the election,” he said.
Rauf said the five-day assembly at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) would instil a “winning mentality” in the delegates.
Earlier, Rauf had spent 45 minutes for a walkabout and monitor the final preparations at PWTC.
Checks by the New Straits Times showed that some delegates had already arrived to collect their radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags at PWTC.
Mohd Ridzwan Abd Malik, 43, from Kelantan said he arrived at about 3am today and was eager to participate in the assembly.
“This is my first time joining the assembly and I hope I can gain knowledge from speeches and debates,” he said.
Several technicians were also seen doing their equipment check, especially on the LED screen at the venue to ensure there were no glitches.
Vendors from various government agencies and traders were also giving the final touches to ensure their booths were ready.
