MCA's Wee Jeck Seng is BN candidate for Tanjung Piai

PONTIAN: MCA’s Datuk Seri Wee Jeck Seng has been named Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Tanjung Piai by-election.

Wee, who is MCA’s Tanjung Piai division chief, is no stranger to the area, having served as a two-time Tanjung Piai MP before his defeat to Pakatan Harapan’s Datuk Dr Mohd Farid Mohd Rafik in the 14th General Election.

He was also a one-term Pekan Nenas assemblyman.

His candidacy was announced by Johor Umno chief Datuk Hasni Mohamad and MCA president Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong at an event at BN’s by-election command centre.

Wee, 55, will go against Tanjung Piai Parti Pribumi Bersatu chief Karmaine Sardini, and Gerakan deputy secretary-general Wendy Subramaniam.

Tanjung Piai has 53,528 registered voters, of whom 57 per cent are Malays, 41.66 per cent are Chinese and one per cent are Indians.

The Election Commission has fixed Nov 2 as nomination day and Nov 16 as polling day for the by-election.
