KUALA LUMPUR: Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim wants the Dewan Rakyat to immediately debate the recent Pandora Papers exposé.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page today, the Port Dickson member of parliament said he has submitted a motion on his proposal to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun.
"I urge the Dewan Rakyat to immediately debate this pressing issue as it mentioned several big names from our country.
"I believe this matter is of public importance as it mentions the names of politicians from the government as well as the opposition.
"I request that this motion be considered and passed for debate," he said in the brief statement.
The Pandora Papers investigation – involving some 600 journalists from media including The Washington Post, the BBC, and The Guardian – is based on the leak of around 11.9 million documents from 14 financial services companies around the world.
Around 35 current and former leaders are featured in the latest documents analysed by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) – facing allegations ranging from corruption to money laundering and global tax avoidance.
The exposé also linked a number of other prominent Malaysians to offshore dealings.
